Von&Vonnie - romance that smells of coffee
The Von&Vonnie roastery was born out of love. Literally. Morgan von Mantripp and Yvonne Spresny - partners in life, in business and in their passion for fine coffee - are behind its name and its creation. The combination of their names gave birth not only to a likeable name, but also to a café and roastery in Porto, Portugal, that makes sense to the heart and the palate. The Von&Vonnie brand prides itself on transparency, sustainability and fairness - whether it's in the selection of beans, relationships with farmers or the overall philosophy of the business.
The journey from Thailand to Porto
The road to owning our own roastery wasn't a straightforward one, but it was a beautifully adventurous one. Morgan has a background in archaeology, Yvonne in law and marketing. But both eventually found their passion in coffee - first as baristas, then as enthusiasts who travelled around Southeast Asia in search of the "perfect cup". The first meeting in Thailand, the second in Chiang Mai, and then it was off to the races - travelling together, exploring coffee farms in Vietnam, Laos and Sri Lanka, and dreaming of owning their own café. And Porto? It drew them to itself - just as they were drawn to each other.
From bean to cup
Today, Von&Vonnie focuses on sourcing their own green coffee, roasting it and creating the stories behind each cup. Their approach is built on seasonality and fair relationships with growers - they want to control the entire process, from farm to cup. They believe that fine coffee doesn't have to be complicated or elitist. On the contrary - it can be joyful, simple, even scientific. It depends on what you want to take away from it. And it's this combination of accessibility and quality that makes them the ideal roaster for everyone - both avid coffee lovers and those who simply want to indulge in great coffee without the glitz.
