If you are craving for a light, delicious and fresh filter, you will definitely love this washed Kenya from the Czech roastery Beansmith . There's nothing like a good, pure Kenyan filter coffee - with higher acidity and a rich, fruity flavour, in which you can easily detect the typical notes of blackcurrant, grapefruit and rosehip tea. At the end, you'll be hit by the dense sweetness of cane sugar accompanied by a light grapefruit bitterness. The cup is characterised by a higher citric acidity and medium sweetness - the ideal coffee for summer days.
Kii Station , run by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, is located at the foot of Mount Kenya. The area is renowned for its ideal coffee growing conditions - an altitude of 1 310 to 1 900 metres, abundant rainfall and fertile volcanic soil. Smallholder farmers here grow SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties, known for their high quality and hardiness. There are several varieties mixed in this coffee. SL28 is an older Kenyan variety known for its sweet, complex flavour and drought tolerance. Although susceptible to disease, its 'rusticity' means it can survive for decades without intervention. SL34 has similar origins but is even more susceptible to disease. It requires meticulous care but rewards it with full body, pleasant acidity and exceptional flavour. Ruiru 11 is a modern hybrid with high yields and disease resistance. It is compact and easy to grow, but its flavour is rather bland and slightly earthy. Batian, as a newer generation after Ruiru 11, combines high yields, resistance and a more pronounced flavour profile - a balanced compromise between quality and practicality.
The coffee is processed using a washed method that involves careful cherry sorting, fermentation, washing and drying on raised African beds. This process ensures purity of flavour and brings out the coffee's characteristic fruity notes.
