About Poppy Beans

There is no better introduction to the Brno-based roastery Poppy Beans than through their own words, written for our very own coffee lovers.

Our adventure starts in the year 2017 in the heart of Midlothian region, in the capital of European coffee culture and Scotland- Edinburgh. In a place where historical, industrial and Scandinavian influences converge and together form a coffee world with a unique atmosphere, which many others around the world try to imitate.

Here, coffee is an integral part of everyday life, regardless of if you are walking through the streets of the historic centre or the New Town. Whether you go for a walk through the borough of a selected company in Stockbridge or follow the flow of the Water of Leith, all the way to the mouth of the historic port of Leith, wherever you look, (if you look hard enough) you will feel the atmosphere and smell the aroma of speciality coffee. With the many roasters located in the city supporting the development of coffee culture, we could not escape this charm.

Our goal is to educate. Educate ourselves because the coffee market is constantly evolving and moving forward. The worst thing we could do is to stop and say that we are satisfied with what we do and what we know about coffee. We also want to educate the public, because coffee is still perceived in the eyes of many as a necessary routine that brings nothing but a surge of energy or waking up in the morning. That is why we offer more conservative coffees, which will be appreciated by fans of traditional taste profiles, natural coffees that dazzle with their palette of exotic fruit flavours, but also experimental coffees, with which we discover the unknown and each cup is unique in its own way.

As soon as possible after harvest, we test green coffee beans from proven farmers using the Ikawa Pro sampling roaster and select the most interesting taste profile, whether it is coffee processed experimentally or in traditional ways. We roast beans in small volumes of 1 kg - 1.5 kg, according to current demand and therefore they are always freshly roasted at the time of ordering.

Our products are packaged with respect for the environment, but at the same time so that the coffee beans retain all their natural tastes and aromas, which are developed during the roasting process. We make sure that every farmer receives fair compensation so that they can continue to improve the production process and produce even better coffee for you, the end consumers.

Coffee is a passion for us and a never-ending experience that we want to share with you.
