Treat yourself to a cup of whiskey barrel-aged coffee from Great Britain. The Ethiopian selection Common Grounds from the roasting drums of the British Dark Woods Coffee offers not only a basic bourbon note but also hints of vanilla, dried fruit, and milk chocolate.
The journey of this exceptional coffee begins in the Ethiopian plantations of the Yirgacheffe region. At an altitude of about 1900 meters above sea level, one of the best-rated Arabica beans in the world is grown here. However, its typical citrus and floral aroma undergoes a big transformation before it reaches the yellow sacks. After a washed processing and transport, the Common Grounds coffee then rests in special bourbon barrels, where it acquires its distinctive flavor.
Their import is a collaboration between the roasters from "The Red Forest" and the microbrewery Magic Rock, which uses the barrels to age some of its beers, adding another layer of flavor with craft beer. During the two-week rest, the green beans soak up fruitiness and subtlety from the oak wood and bourbon, after which they are simply roasted. The resulting coffee was so well roasted that it won three-star gold recognition at the Great Taste Awards two years in a row (2017 and 2018). The jury's verdict on the coffee was as follows: "Funky, sweet, full-bodied, and smooth. Excellent!"
