About Mitte
Can you introduce your roastery in a couple of sentences?
We're a small roastery from Brno, whose only recently started roasting their own coffee for our coffee shops and customers. Starting our own roastery has been all talk and no action for the last two years until we finally made the decision to finally do it. Our roastery has been up and running since January of 2020 thanks to the best roaster out there, Henry Červeňanský.
What's the story behind your logo?
Cafe Mitte (which means centre in german) was located in a historical building that was built in 1659 on Panska street no. 11, right in the centre of Brno. When we were trying to come up with a name for our Hostel and Cafe, the name Mitte was an obvious choice. A little down the line we opened up our second cafe, Spital Cafe Mitte in Bohunice, close to the university hospital, and in October 2019 we moved Cafe Mitte to a bigger location, on Panska 7. Naming the roastery the same as our cafe was the plan since the beginning- Mitte. Or in the logo just tt, which sometimes people tend to read as Mihe :-).
What's the hardest part about being a roastery?
Opening during a global pandemic and a state of emergency, but there's nothing that could have stopped us.
What's one thing that you would have done differently if you could start all over again?
There's nothing that comes to mind. We've only been open for a very short while.

What has been your biggest success?
We celebrate our successes as a whole, and so far the biggest success for Mitte has been our first participation in the 2020 Barista of the Year, for Radim Baštinec, where ho got 4th place.
What are you most proud of?
Opening up the first speciality coffee shop in Brno. Also, the fact that there have been a lot of people that have come and gone through our doors, that started their coffee journey at Mitte, that now run their own coffee shops or roasteries.
