About Father Carpenter

Father Carpenter is a roastery in the heart of Berlin, which was founded in 2023. However, since 2014, cafes and restaurants have been hiding under the Father Carpenter brand. Come and see their interesting journey to roasting selected coffee.

How did it begin?

The journey of Father Carpenter was started in 2014, when a group of young people led by founder Kresten Thogersen decided to start a business. Kresten is originally from Melbourne, Australia and grew up in a coffee-intensive family. Moving to Berlin was a completely natural decision for him, because it was here that the third coffee wave was in full swing.

At first it was just a pop-up. A year later, it was possible to reconstruct the space with a small kitchen and thus the first F.C cafe was born. With the first cafe, the idea of a roastery also formed in Kresten's head.

In the end, Kresten did not go into coffee roasting alone. He teamed up with Silo Coffee and together they founded the now legendary Fjord Coffee Roasters, a roastery that today ranks among the European creme de la creme of the selection market.

In the following years, F.C managed to enlarge the premises of the original cafe and at the same time opened Father Carpenter To-Go - a smaller space where more customers could be served in a shorter time.

In 2023, Father Carpenter separated from Fjord, creating an independent roastery of the same name.

Roastery Mission

Just like their vision with the cafe, their roasting is driven by the desire to offer the best and highest quality product. Roasting their own coffee became the last link in perfecting their hospitality.

At Father Carpenter, they approach coffee with a very romantic, even puritanical idea that roasting is a process that helps bring the flavor of the beans to the surface, but should not affect it in any way.

They strive for coffees with sparkling acidity, subtle sweetness and a main line with the clearest possible taste.

Kresten let it be known that he would like F.C. expanded to include a Paris branch, as this European metropolis is significantly behind in terms of the specialty coffee scene. He would therefore like to offer in France what he succeeded in Berlin.
