About Old Spike Roastery

At Old Spike, we strive to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors leaves with a better story than they came up with. Whether we offer homeless people with tangible opportunities to gain new skills and jobs, or we serve delicious, socially conscious coffee to our customers, we want to make a meaningful social impact.

We started our journey in 2014, when we opened our cafe and roastery area in our very first place in Peckham Rye. We were the first specialty coffee roaster to operate as a social enterprise, and since then we have been at the forefront of using coffee as a means of social change. This model has served us well and we have since expanded the business and are now located just around the corner on our state-of-the-art SCA campus - still in Peckham!

We now serve a much wider network of companies and individuals and in cooperation with our sister company Change Please we offer complete barista training in our academy. Through these courses and subsequent coffee selections, we are helping to reduce homelessness in the UK. At the same time, we return up to 65% of our profits to support this mission.

We are proud of our approach to obtaining specialty green coffee from countries of origin, which is based on the principles of direct trade, quality and seasonality. We make sure that the coffees we offer are as fresh and seasonal as possible, to show the amazing variety of flavors and aromas that are found in the various coffees around the world.

In addition to focusing on direct trade and seasonality, we place great emphasis on quality. Higher quality means a better price for growers, which is why it is very important for us to continue to work with farmers who constantly supply us with high-quality coffee. This helps them secure a higher price, which is often 4-5 times higher than the fair trade minimum.
