About Astro Café Roasters

The Astro Café roastery was founded in 2018 as the first independent coffee micro roastery in the city of A Coruña, in northern Galicia. The idea to open a roastery was born in the head of two coffee enthusiasts, Willy Gómez and Juab Zabal. Their goal was simple, to change coffee culture across the universe. So Willy and Juan began an intergalactic journey full of delicious coffee, joy, but also missteps.

Willy and Juan are no rookies. On the contrary, they are united by many years of experience, which was one of the impulses for opening the roastery. During their practice, both were amazed by the unavailability of quality coffee for the general public. And so came the decision to roast and sell quality coffee at affordable prices for everyone.

Juan and Willy themselves claim to have searched through a galaxy of coffees on their journey — of different origins, roasting profiles, processes, varieties and vintages. At first they only roasted for their own use (imagine a 10 square meter warehouse). In order to deliver the best coffee beans to customers, they conducted millions of tests and experiments to find the best way to work with coffees. Gradually, the roasted volumes increased, until finally the roasting room grew to the size of the old squash court, where it is still today.

Today, the roaster is a fully functional intergalactic headquarters, the center of which is the Toper roaster. On the premises of the court, they prepare orders, store green coffee, perform cupping, training and tests. Everything to get the best out of your coffees. Although the court is no longer in use, from time to time Willy and Juan will pull a net over their ping-pong table (which they otherwise use as a work space) and exchange a few sets.
